You Need a Reason.

I have gotten numerous messages and comments asking how I started the journey of getting healthy from people looking for motivation. Some need to lose 100 pounds, some need to lose 5. What they all have in common is that they just can’t seem to start and stick to a healthier way of life.

The honest truth is I was yo-yo dieting for years before this. I remember running on the treadmill for 45 minutes after volleyball practice to try and burn off more calories. Keep in mind I was 121 pounds and a size 00. I didn’t want to get healthy, I wanted to get skinny. Nothing worked because I never had a good enough reason.  I would starve myself and then binge ( and gain a lot of weight) . Willpower and the desire to look great in a bikini will only get you so far.

Fast forward to the last few years. My husband and I have had trouble conceiving our second kiddo. For awhile we were just not preventing. Then we were trying. Then we were REALLY trying. Nothing happened. That was when we decided we needed a change. We did a few rounds of Whole30 . We had great results, felt better but never really stuck to it. Somehow we would get off track and gain it back. Then last year something just clicked. Sean is quite a few years older than I am and we are unhealthy , infertile and not happy . We wanted to not only grow our little family but improve it. When we are healthy we are better parents, better partners and so much more active. We finally realized that we better do this..NOW. So we sat down, made a plan and have been sticking to it ever since.

What I’m saying is, you have to have a reason. I can’t tell you when/where/why this is going to happen for you. I’m also not saying that is the only way you can lose weight and change your life but for me, it was.

I wish I could tell you exactly how to do this and exactly what will/will not work but I can’t. It is so individually based. What I can say to you is that you CAN DO THIS. Get educated through Pinterest, blogs, books. Find out what works for you and use those things to propel you forward. Keep working, keep figuring out yourself and don’t have a number expectation. It is fine to have a range you would like to get at but I promise you guys, the scale is not the end all be all. Once you start to feel better and your health changes the numbers won’t matter as much.
